A combined joint task force of the Somali National Army (SNA) and Jubbaland forces killed 11 members of Al-Shabaab terror group near Beled-Hawo town of Gedo region.

The forces on Monday afternoon conducted an assault targeting the new base of the terrorists in a village which lies 50km away from Beled-Hawo town.

The militants withdrew from the positions they held in the area.

An exchange of heavy weaponry that lasted hours left 11 militants dead, two tactical vehicles with mounted machine guns destroyed, and light machine guns seized by the army, according to Jamal Hassan Farey, the commander of Jubbaland Dervish forces in Gedo region.

Mr. Farey said the militants were planning to use the base to conduct ambushes and attacks targeting the SNA and Jubbaland.

The official noted that the joint forces lost five soldiers.

“We lost five soldiers and seven soldiers sustained injuries,” he said.

Somali military has intensified its operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in Southern Somalia.
